HM Land Registry provides guidance which can be found on www.gov.uk for Conveyancers and Solicitors on the verification of clients and individuals who require identification in order that they can complete their transaction themselves.
This guidance is known as Practice Guide 67 “Practice guide 67: evidence of identity; conveyancers”. This guide explains when evidence of identity is required and how it should be given.
Helpfully, the guidance continues to permit the use of the ID5 form. The guidance notes “form ID5 must be completed where a conveyancer has verified a person’s identity by way of an online video call.” This is very positive news for individuals and companies struggling to locate a Solicitor who is prepared to complete an ID1 identification verification in person.
The Government has provided a video to accompany the guidance, which can be located here.
The new Practice Guide can be found on HM Land Registry’s website.
